can someone explain pet taming very simply

I am 100% confused on taming pets. I understand you need a pet card and I think you get them by killing the animals you want for a pet until a card drops. If I am wrong, correct me. I have a "pantara card" which I think is for pet taming, but what kind of animal. Please someone help! I am very confused

They changed it so they drop from pretty much any creature... Killing Red Pixies might get you a Blue Pixie or an Orc... So you can't really aim for the creature you want anymore.

Once you have the card, you can only attempt to tame the creature type associated with that card. You can find out what Panteras look like from trainees island. You can also tame them there. But they wont necessarily have the word "Pantera" in their name.

To tame, all you have to do is cast Creature Taming on a creature and make sure you have an Empty Card associated with that creature in your inventory. Once you have cast Creature Taming... kill the creature.

You will get a message after your kill indicating if it tamed or not.

If your tame was sucessful, open your Formation Menu (Alt+Y) and drag your tamed card to the creature slot, and cast Summon Creature.

Basically any cat-like creature. The pet taming card is not for a specific mob, just a general term for the type of mobs. So you can find any "pantera" like mob actually, and tame one.

To summarize:

1) To tame a pet, you need an empty card of the type of pet you wish to tame. You have three sources for empty cards:

Merchants sell Pantera, Poultry, Tortus cards
Kill mobs hoping an empty drops. The actual card dropped will be random.
Buy one from another player.

2) You need to find a mob of the type of pet you wish to tame. The mob must be at full health.
3) Cast the tame spell
4) Kill the mob within the tame time.

then i must have messed up something. i have two characters, on one, i have the pantera card installed, but she cant cast the catch spell. the other has the card, but cant install it at all...i click on it, drag it-whatever i can think of. it just flickers in the slot, but does not install.

once i CAN get this straightened out, which pantera would you recommend i go after? both alts are around lv12, atm.

and, before i once again forget, thank you all for kindness in answering beginner questions! im coming in from PerfectWorld, and these questions, in the forum, would get me ridiculed and flamed. i hesitated a long time before asking, for fear of this.

Just remember you need the following skills in order to properly tame, form, and summon your pet:
1) Taming Creature (so you can tame/catch your pet)
2) Creature Mastery (so you can form/install your pet)
3) Summon Creature (so you can summon your formed pet)
4) Unsummon Creature (so you can unsummon your summoned pet)

In order to form one (install), you need to make sure it's a tamed pet card. You will notice it by the absent of the word "empty." If it's an empty card, you need to tame it first.

By catch spell you mean creature taming, right? There are only a few things I can think of--The monster has to be full health when you try to tame it, and you should make sure you have a pantera card--and that your trying to tame a pantera. Also be sure the card isn't already tamed. If it wont even let you cast the spell something isn't right with one of those 3 problems. As for the one you should tame--it really doesn't matter--as long as its a pantera (lion looking) monster that you are able to kill.

As for the forums--Freely ask any questions you'd like--there aren't SO many jerks here but you will find some and usually when some flame head starts something, everyone else follows. But unless the topic is something stupid like "Topic: The game" and the post is "i like the game"..nobody will get mad at you for saying things on the forum or asking questions.

sorry about not knowing the proper terms for things yet..only had this game installed and playing for 3 days, and every game has names and terms that take a while to learn-been with PWI for a year, and unlearning/learning is not easy for me at my age! ^_^

ok, i got on last night (tried to just now, but it looks like the game is too busy-servers all yellow, and game crashed 4 times before i could even take a step) and checked both characters. i had not realised that i had actually caught a pet with one (yay!!...new set of questions coming up with that one), and still had problems with my first. still cant get the card up in the creature box. it still just blinks then doesnt stick

sorry ...its all new to me. i cant wait till i can get the hang of it all...i see many pets i would love to catch! this is what brought me to this game

Hm, if it wont let you put the creature into your creature formation, then it is probably empty, and you'd have to go tame that one. As for the questions about the tamed pet, any questions and you can feel free to ask.

this wasn't asked but i thought i would throw it out there....

if you have a Pantara card it can only tame Pantara mobs.. it wont even let you try for a (lets just say) Turtle or a poultry. the tame creature skill wont even cast.

so basically dont worry about messin up your tame, you cant. and with your pantara you have like a 99% chance for success (same for turtles and Poultry). if it fails you can buy another from a Merchant.
