Hey guys,

I'm trying to watch a movie on windows media player but instead of showing a video it just plays the sound and shows those trippy colors that show when you play music, any idea on how to get the video to show? (i feel so dumb lol)

Ah, ok my friend told me how to do it . Incase anyone wants to know just download divx player or a program like it and you will be able to watch movies on media player, enjoy.

You were missing what we call a codec to display the video from your file (such as MKV, MP4, OGG or even plain AVIs that have been encoded with DivX or XviD)

If you have any other file formats that you cannot play (such as MKV) remove your DivX player (and any other codecs and players) and get the Combined Community Codec Pack.

It comes with 2 optional media players (Media Player Classic FTW!) and almost every codec needed to play any video type. It takes 30 seconds to install and you can use the video player of your choice (classic pwns all, it's fast as lightning)

But I use Windows Media Player (11) to play DVDs for better menus and subtitle support, aside from that, Media Player Classic all the way!

VLC blows... not only is it slow to open, lags on pausing but some of their built-in codecs don't work for everything such as certain displaying inbedded subtittles or bugs with some dual-sub or dual-audio files.

Using VLC is like using AOL. It works for most things and is simple to apply... but it blows hardcore.

On a side-note, VLC's option to make your destop wallpaper play video is pretty cool. I admit I have VLC... I just don't use it bcz I prefer Media Player Classic for it's speed and reliability. Uninstalling your current codecs, Installing the CCCP codec pack and setting Media Player Classic as your default media player for your file types, takes less time than Installing VLC altogether.

But my opinion is kinda biased, VLC is a good tool... it just irritates me greatly... particularly the pause function always waiting 1 second before pausing. But yeah, if you want an easy solution, get VLC... Otherwise MPC + CCCP codec pack all the way (it's easier than you think)
