A few questions before I start this class

Postby raexaike » Sat Jul 05, 2008 6:04 am

Hi, I'm going to start this game tomorrow and I want to ask a few things before I start my first character...

I am someone who wants it all in the end, and I don't mind how much work I have to do to get it... I basically chose this class because I am under the impression that it takes the most work but, in the end, it gives the greatest reward... Is this the right class for me?

While reading through this forum I saw some debate between whether overbreeding is good or not, after some more looking I learned that JP is in no way a limited resource, I checked a wiki and it said there are no real disadvantages to overbreeding your 1st job other than when you finish you'll be level 65-ish as opposed to level 50. Do you miss out on anything by just getting the job advancement at level 65 after overbreeding as opposed to overbreeding, then deleveling to 50 and advancing?

My next question, is this a game centered around builds? From what I've read so far it isn't but just to be sure, will there ever be a case where I level up some certain skill and end up regretting it forever, or is this a game where you can, eventually, just max out?

Similar to my last question, can pets max out? or do they only get a limited amount of skills they get to advance?

and also, can you have more than one of the same tamed creature?

are there any other tips anyone can give to a new player like me?

any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

First off, welcome to Rappelz.
Yes sorcerer is a class that takes a lot of hard work in the beginning but becomes one of the most powerful in the end.

Overbreeding: Firstly, you'll finish over breeding at around 56 not 65. You don't miss out on a thing by overbreeding and not de-leveling you end up with the same base stats as someone who overbreeds and then de-levels. So the only thing you really gain is maxing out the second skill tree slightly earlier, but that's really only a point of view, as it takes time to de-level and then re-level. It's really up to you if you want to de-level and re-level.

Yeah there is really only one build you'll use, str and vit. You can throw in a few int stones to help with mana conservation if you want, but once you reach r5, there is no point in any other build. A few people use slightly different build, they range from agility vitality builds, to wisdom vitality builds, they are generally more for the pvp oriented players and, again, only be for r5 players.

Pets can't max out, they get a set number of skill points and it's up to you to decide the best builds for them, there are tonnes of guides to help you here on the forums.

Of course you can have many of the same pets if you wish. However please note, that when dual summoning if you have two of the same pets out, you can't use the same at the same time because they will share cool down. Yeah that sounds annoying, but you will end up using different pets for different things.

Hope you enjoy the class as much as I have, feel free to ask anymore questions here.

ah okay, thanks for the help! So I started my character and I'm somewhat at loss for what I should do after leaving the tutorial island... Are there any main things I should start doing? Or is it just a straight grind till I reach high levels? I'm currently level 18 and haven't done much other than grind and a few of the "kill X number of this, this, and that" quests... Is there some kind of questline I can start? I can do the random quests that pop up but if there's something with a kind of plot to help me on my way I can start that would be awesome... Oh, and which monsters should I be farming? A friend told me I should start farming pixies for cards once I reach the low-20's but until then should I do the skellies outside the azura town and hope for a card? I'd really like to update from my poultry as soon as possible >.>

If you have enough money I'd suggest getting a turtle, 8k for the card from an NPC merchant and just head over to Horizen using the teleporter to tame one. It's much better than the chicken for a sorc because it will stay alive longer due to its pdef and pdef buffs, and once it hits 40 you can put it on your belt for that extra little vit boost if you have a better pet by then. It also has a patk passive to raise its damage. Skells are good to farm at low levels but I would recommend something other than the pixie when you hit 20+ sure a BP is handy, but its not the sort of thing you're going to need at this point. What you should be farming is either orcs or yetis. As a pet class your pet is going to be doing the majority of your damage, so you need something that is going to pack a punch and be able to tank for you, a yeti or an orc can do that, they can be found in Lasky, mainly to the north of the anchor.

As for your quests there isn't a real story line you can follow, there are a bunch of quests for the dungeons that follow on from each other, you'll start getting those around 20-30 which is when you'll start looking for dungeon parties to help you level. The quests are usually either Kill x amount of particular mobs, or kill mob x and take this drop off them.
Just do quests, learn what your skills do. Once you find your rhythm and are high enough for the Dungeon Parties, start getting into the action.

okay, I'll start farming them... I heard, however, that only monsters above level 30 can drop their cards... so would that mean that varieties of orc that are lower level than 30 not be able to drop any? Also, does the card have a constant drop rate or would say.. a level 35 orc have a higher chance to drop it than a level 32 orc? and one last thing... I've been having weird errors with the graphics of the game, stuff like branches hovering next to trees, missing faces, clothing turning all gray, and most recently the pictures of items in my inventory and stuff on my HUD have all been going haywire.. It didn't do this until now, any idea what the issue is?

ah, and thanks, you've been a great help thusfar!

Yeah it does seem to only be the 30+ mobs that drop cards. Once mobs are over that level they seem to drop cards easy enough. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about in terms of the levels, I think you could be confused about fact that a mobs level compared to your own will effect drops, ie. If you're level 50 and a mob is level 40 it won't drop you a card, or much else. I've found the best chance you have for getting a pet card is when the mobs are the same level as you (White) To about 7-8 levels higher than you (orange/red), you can farm higher if you want, but your kill speed is faster within the same to +5 level range (White/yellow).

As for your graphic problems, I've never encountered anything like that. Throw up a post in Technical Assistance and see if they can help you there.

okay, thanks again! anyway, i've been killing orc leaders from level 23 up till 31, I finally got a card and a 10+3 tamer failed it TT~TT ah well, it can't be helped.. anyway, I keep hearing about dungeons lately, what's the deal with those? and also, how much does the 'cash flow' increase as you increase in levels? I'm seriously tempted to continue grinding orcs (I have no idea why, normally I hate grinding but lately it's turned into a sort of unconscious urge for some reason...) But my friend let me borrow his level 63 BP for the next week while he went on a trip, so I'm wondering if I should just move on and focus on getting stronger, then once I'm considerably higher I could just buy a card instead.... Afterall, most of the good items in this game are worth several mills, the cash has to come from somewhere right? It doesn't seem like the r2's are supplying the stuff that make up the very high-price market of this game >.>

Yeah I had a 10 +4 tamer fail 3 pets before I got my first tamed. It's really just luck.
Most of the cash seems to come from pets (Empty and Tamed), Stamina Savers and a few other cash shop items. Don't be surprised if you're rank 3 by the time you get your first non NPC pet tamed.
The cash you will make will increase as you level up and start getting higher rank drops of armor, weapons and the like. Dungeons are where the bulk of your exp will come from, just watch global chat for stuff like "DPLF 30+ DD" If you're in a guild or have some friends around the same level you might be better to try one with them. The first dungeon, Relics of Arid Moonlight, is west of Horizen, again it's usually best if you get a friend to show you, since there are a few higher level mobs around the entrance, you can probably hand them with the BP, and once you get inside you could probably take out a few of the mobs in the rooms off the lobby. Just be careful, the mobs in there have alot more HP and do a bit more damage than normal field mobs and field bosses.
