Because Sorcs are a pet class we're pretty good at just about everything, given the right combination of pets and buffs etc. Generally sorcs are regarded as great DPers, especially after you hit r4 when we really start to shine and get your auras. Pet classes are, for the moment, the hardest to defeat in PvP and we're definitely a force to be reckoned with in sieges.

General advice: If you're not already, or when you get to r3, switch to using dirk and shield. R3 is when most people switch over to dirk + shield, the combo delivers more damage from then onwards.
Overbreed your character, get to jlvl 50 before you class change, since sorcs are basically a Sin/DM Hybrid we are pretty squishy well into r3, so its best to overbreed and gain the extra stats.
Aim to get auras as soon as possible, Halisha is the one most Battle Summoners aim for first and it is widely regarded as one of the best pet buffs. Don't waste JP on Dual summoning initially, until you get your auras its basically a waste.

Pets: For low levels a Tank pet is definitely a must, so a Turtle or an Orc or a Yeti, are the best choices, once you get dual summoning a good secondary pet is a skeleton or a Chicken, their debuffs are great and their slightly lower damage means they won't steal aggro from your tank pet. Always make sure your pets have good equipment, they are your main weapons and you need to make sure you take care of them.

Any pet class w/ high lv pet (i.e. 60+ +10) is good at anything. though with their not so good healing capabilities, it is suggested you get a high lv pet to tank for you, instead of you taking all the damage. I myself traded for a 61+10 orc last night, and while i was farming for more orcs (to pay for r3 maxxed equips) my orc didn't take any damage at all, which was helpful compared to 2 weeks prior when i was using a lv 30 skell, the skell would die almost as fast as i would.

So again any pet class w/ high lv pet is a good match.

I know orcs are rly strong, but personally, I'm crazy about the siren for some reason, the bow combined with whip does some massive damage, not to mention first aid.

just remember
before jlvl 40 of the 2nd job, you are just another DD in the party but.. at R3 i stole AND challenged the whole party, (many times actually) including some R4s, 2 hunas and a soldier....good DD classes... to steal agro away from me, just a +5 R3dagger with crit geat, believe me, noone can, 130ish attack speed fully buffed with luck rings is just way too much damage/time, very few can get close to that =x

the down side is...youll be wasting the priests mana getting all the agro 100% of the time having less P.def than them sometimes xD

but back on topico, after jlvl 40 (and prolly R4) your life will change, you wont be a squishy anymore, you will be a full DD, with 2 pets (who some would count as 2 DDs) and a kickass aura who woul also count like 2-3 DDs by itself, the difference is just sick, but the road can be kinda hard, i got jlvl 40 not OBing and skipping everything but skill pre-reqs for might of the underworld and blood aura till jlvl 40, pumping jlvls wenever i had the chance, and got it at lvl 79, but it was well worth it xD

I did the exact opposite. I got my Dual summoning to level 8 (106 seconds), and now I'm starting to get to JLv40 to get my auras. Why is it exactly a waste? My damage is almost doubled with the help from my 2nd pet, my siren. In addition, I can level 2 pets at the same time, so I don't have to powerlevel a second pet later on, and have it to be always at a lower level than my main pet.

You're going to have to basically power level your pet anyways, the only difference is a few levels, 10 max, from when you got dual summon to level 8 and when you get the auras, you're better off with auras and jlvl 40 than dual summoning imo. Whatever works for you I guess.

I too also worked on my dual summoning first and it worked for me since the aura buff can't be as powerful as another pet whacking mobs with a 2h axe.

You+1 halisha/blood pet will do less damage than me + 2 pets.

For the record, I upped dual summoning to lv7 at jl30 (also got my dirk and creature masteries to lv16 at this point.) It's a perk if you farm more than you DP, otherwise you will be considered kinda gimpy in R4 DP's without your aura buffs. At least I felt gimpy. xD But, in those DP's I was more powerful than other BS with my dual summoning and high masteries, while they had just 1 pet and auras. If you aren't a team player like I wasn't for 70 levels, then I recommend taking a similar path.
