power support or combat support for orc?

Postby anasininami » Mon Oct 01, 2007 1:43 pm

hi i want to make a sorc. i already have an orc as a main pet and want to focus on 1 toggle skill since we can't use 2 at the same time.
the thing is, which one is better for orc; combat support or power support?
Some people says go power support since orc has good patk but if we can use lions claw(crit possibly buff) with one of these i may choose combat support so i can make more crits with faster atk speed.
so i guess i need a little help.
thanks for any information...

Lvl 44 sorc/47 skell.

It all depends on what you want to do. First off you will have to experiment to get best results. Anyway:

I have power support lvl8 +2 = 50patk and 300hp
combat support lvl3 +2 = 9.8atk spd

Now I have a skell with a r2 +6lvl10 2haxe and it has an atk spd self buff of +4%.

Skell patk is about 404 so with power support on I have 454 patk @ 70 (72 if I have feast of wind =skell self buff on)

with combat support the equation is 404 patk @ 79atk spd (with both buffs on)

N.B: Once the passive that increases my skells atk spd when wearing archers suit is fixed these atk spd numbers should look different ( :D )

Anyway since your orc lacks skell atk spd buff and (not currently working) passive. I would go with power support. The additional patk looks small but on a chip its about 100 more damage and with a crit even better. Also the additional hp never hurts.

Even I still use power support for the additional hp (once atk speed psv fixed I will probably be on combat support permanantly).

Real world comparison: @ present power support is better than combat support for me. Of course there is an argument that since orcs have such high patk esp with buff that they could switch to using a dirk and running combat support. I have tried a dirk on my skell before but the damage per second is less than with an axe even though the axe is slower. I have done the calculations myself even before reading then on another site/thread. The axe has the highest dps out of all the weapons (hence why my 2hand axe weilding champion is an absolute dps beast even without pet and highly spammable skills).

+9% attack speed = +9% more dmg to a mob... If patt bonus from power support is greater thare the latter one... And do remember about that extra hp if your pet gets killed often... In dp with buffed pet go with combat support - even more dmg will be added due to increased patt ;)

I am a lvl52 Battle Summoner now and I have to say that at this point combat support is not cutting it. Power support is simply much better than combat support. Both ingame and by calculations, combat support is simply a very weak buff.

I have power support lvl10+2 and combat support lvl3+2

The first problem with combat support is that the games math engine rounds down buffs. e.g. the skell has a +4% (@ lvl 5) atk speed self buff. With an axe my skell has 70 atk spd. +4% should give 72.8 atk spd. If anything the atk spd should be 73 but the in game reading is 72.
When I add lvl 3 combat support(+2) which is a 9.8 % increase the result should be (using the 72.8) ~79.9 atk spd. In game the result is 79.

On a skell using the feast of wind lvl5 (+4% atk spd) and a lvl1 unenchanted r3 2h axe (with 2 +5 str stones = +20 patk) the dps is 224.64. With combat support lvl3+2 on the 9.8% increase results in a dps of 246.48 using the same axe. Cool right? Wrong! using the same axe and lvl10+2 power support instead of the lvl3+2 combat support the skell now has a dps of 267.84 (due to the +60patk).
In other words +60patk increases the dps more than +9.8%atk spd.

Add in the 360 additional hp from power support and combat support has no uses at present for me.

Also where the dirk issue is concerned:
1) The dps of a single dirk just sucks period. Using a similar dirk (r3 lvl1 unenchanted with 1 +5 str stone = +10 patk) the skell now has a dps of 154.7 with feast of wind lvl5 and combat support lvl3+2 and 207.1 with feast of wind lvl5 and power support lvl10+2.
In other words dont use a dirk on your pet as a sorc.

However please note that for the sorc itself the dirk will be the best choice of weapon once you have your weapon mastery to the full lvl20 in addition to the double buff as well as the occasional block that the shield gives. Until then the best choice of weapon for a young sorc/B.Sum is actually a 2 handed axe. (Also note that charge stab and dark strike produce significantly more damage with a 2handed axe).

2) You lose out on 2 stone slots when using a dirk.

Back to the original topic:
Combat support on its own is very weak.

More Atk Speed = More Hit Chance
More Atk Speed = More Critical Hit Chance
More Atk Speed = Lower Cast Speed in PVP

Later, I prefer use combat support in my skell + self buff + dagger.

for Orc? .... I dont have Orc, try using the more funny support =), because it is a game .

@above me: read the posts before urs O_o.

critical hit chance will be still the same. slower atk speed but more patk = stronger critical hits... Get it?
20% critical hit chance = 20% more dmg in the long run. It will be the same increase for every weapon combination. Some ppl are quite bad in math i think.
btw: more hits = more pdef malus, less hits strong hits = less affected by pdefmalus. pwned ^^

Using a 1handed weapon for pet just gimps it you lose 2 stones slots. You dont see striders running around with one sword or dagger do you?
2hand weapon is a must for a pet since they cannot dual weild.

On topic i would say power support...extra hp and patk vs a bit of atk spd. Atk spd isnt like it use to be.

Power support for solo and pvp.
Combat support for DP and maybe Farming.

The above is the absolute best IF you change your pet's weapon according to the factors. For PVP my skel uses R5 axe, and solo. I use power support because even with +4 combat it isnt that big of a buff as 100 damage.

If im in DP and my skel has the dagger, combat adds alot of extra attack speed (like +18) and makes it the waaay better choice in dp.
